Trying FIAR Again

Two years ago, I thought I would start doing Five in a Row with Rose. I did FIAR with Grace and Christopher and have very fond memories of that time.  I made all kinds of plans and I was very excited to do it all again. We rowed The Story About Ping and How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World.  And we did have fun, but somehow over the holidays that year I lost my steam. Then, I decided that the program wasn't really working for us

Fast-forward to a few weeks ago when I stumbled across my collection of FIAR books and got that wistful feeling.

Rose is six, right in the middle of the recommended age range for FIAR. She likes to look at picture books, but she doesn't ask me to read them to her as much anymore. Some of my previous reasons for not enjoying FIAR no longer really apply. Since we don't read stacks of picture books on a daily basis, FIAR gives me a reason to get them back out again and enjoy them more closely, with less fear of "spoiling" them or picking them apart too much with close study.

Also, Rose is really ready for more in her day. She very much enjoys little projects and experiments and would like more of them. She could also use something to keep her occupied while I work with her siblings. So we are going to try FIAR again for awhile and we will see how it goes.

In general, I plan to "row" a book over two weeks rather than one, since we will be continuing with Sonlight Core B. We will start with Lentil this time around and I will write up a post about what we did once we finish!
