Monday Musings

***Outside my window...We had a nice bit of a warm-up over the weekend, but this week it is back to the cold. And possibly some more snow, which I can't see that we really need. What we do need is sun and flowers. C'mon spring!

***Things I'm thinking about...Getting through these last few weeks of winter. I think we need a trip to a nursery to buy some indoor flowers.

***Barn & garden happenings...In happy news, I planted a little pot of cilantro for the windowsill. In not as happy news, I am finding animal care very draining this time of year- I am really, really sick of it! If it's not mud taking over everything, it's ice and snow blocking up doorways and freezing over water buckets. Taking care of animals is much, much easier in nicer weather. We haven't tapped our trees yet either, because of the cold weather coming this week.

***In our kitchen...Grace made us a cherry cheesecake pie for Washington's birthday. I have been on the hunt for good crockpot recipes for our swim lesson nights.  We tried Santa Fe chicken last week and it was a big hit.

*** In our homeschool...We never did start The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading last week. This week, I really do plan to do so.  We will also be doing the National Mythology Exam this week.

***Creating...I still have not found the time to figure out exactly how to start my next hat, or to find the needles for the cowl I want to make. I have been knitting here and there on my stash blanket, but I am really looking forward to being able to start a new project.

***Reading and watching... We finished watching most of the Olympics, though we certainly didn't get to everything. We also watched Modern Marvels: The Great Wall of China, which was pretty good (it's available on Netflix). James and I just started reading Story of the World: The Middle Ages.

Have a wonderful week!

  1. We've enjoyed a few episodes of Modern Marvels too - I'll have to look for the one on the Great Wall of China! And the Santa Fe chicken recipe you shared looks great. I love that you/your children always have something cooking to go with holidays.

I am also really tired of animal care, especially when it rains, which it is supposed to do a LOT later this week. I am really hoping the improved hutch and drainage will help the chickens out this time.
