Math Update

It has been awhile since I updated the "Math at Our House" link in my sidebar. I clicked on it the other day and realized it was woefully out of date!

This is how we've been doing math at our house lately.

DD12 (7th grade) is using just Life of Fred. She is finishing up Decimals & Percents, and then will move into the pre-algebra books. I plan to have her do a placement test from another program, like Math Mammoth,  just to make sure there are no gaps before she moves onto pre-algebra. She generally does one lesson per day, four days per week.

He just began "Kidneys" and usually does 3 chapters per week. Using just Life of Fred tends to frustrate him; he does better with more direct explanations and more practice. He generally does 1-2 lessons, four days per week, or whatever he can get to in 25-30 minutes.

I found it difficult to use just LOF with him because we wanted to start at the beginning, with Apples, which was way too easy for him.  He and I read about three chapters of LOF each week. He is doing well with Math Mammoth-especially with our simplification techniques. He also enjoys playing the online games that are linked to within each MM chapter.

DD5 (Kindergarten) is using Singapore Essentials, which I just reviewed here. I plan to start Life of Fred: Apples with her once she turns 6.

The older version of math at our house is here.
