What They Did

A log of what the kids did yesterday, our first day of a mostly child-led learning experiment....

Grace

Mom chosen stuff:
1 Rightstart math lesson
Worked on a writing project (she took notes to help her create a paper about making maple syrup)
Listened to A Wind in the Willows

 On her own:
Read astronomy books and magazines
Took nature photos outside
Went for a walk in the woods
Made a list of some things she wants to do
Worked on dog training
Taught her brother to play Scrabble, then proceeded to play all afternoon!

Christopher

Mom chosen stuff
1 Rightstart math lesson
Wrote a paper on a topic of his choice (he chose the history of Tic-Tacs!)
Listened to A Wind in the Willows

On his own:
Read the story of the Minotaur from our Greek myth book
Read about the different uses of fish fins and reported back to me on them
Explored some Internet links about fish
Read What You Never Knew About Fingers, Forks, & Chopsticks
...which resulted in a long discussion about medieval eating habits;)
Took a walk in the woods
Played Scrabble
Made a list of things he wanted to do

James

Mom chosen stuff:
1 Rightstart math lesson
Listened to A Wind in the Willows

On his own
Helped Dad boil sap to make syrup
Went on a bug hunt
Took a walk in the woods
Played games with Rose
Read lots of Curious George books
Made a list of things he wanted to do

On the whole, I think our first more child-led day went very well...at times Grace seemed a bit bored, but today she has perked up a bit and is busy doing a project in the other room. The boys are goofing off, but hey, that's important too right:)?

  1. Looks like a good child-led day! We're experimenting with a more laid back approach, and loving it!
